Look for the clues in time

Find the place and the moment

Read photographs and historical scenes for location, year and the limits of visual evidence.

Why these games?

A photograph can supply two different investigations: where the scene belongs and when it was captured. Signs or buildings may locate it, while vehicles, clothing and visible technology suggest an era. These picks range from place-and-year estimates to year-only exercises, plus a historical panorama whose provenance should not be assumed to be an archival camera record. Separate concrete clues from the image’s general atmosphere before moving a map pin or year control. Old-looking color and grain can mislead. After the reveal, identify whether the date or location was the weaker estimate, then choose a format that practices that skill more directly.

    WhenTaken

Compare another daily photo-based place-and-year challenge. Use buildings, transport and clothing as independent evidence, and inspect the revealed answer to see whether recognition or precise placement caused the larger error.
