Estimate both the location and the year of a historical photograph.
Photos & history
Estimate the period from the photograph first. Then use the limited reveal on the digit that best separates your remaining candidates.
Which Year focuses entirely on dating photographs. The inspected Daily Challenge has five rounds, four digit fields and a displayed 1850–2025 range. Points depend on how close the submitted year is to the answer; there is no map-pin task in this entry.
Its distinctive aid is Reveal Digit. The instructions say a digit can be revealed without a point penalty, but each digit position can only be revealed once per game. That makes the hint a shared resource across the session rather than something to assume is endlessly reusable.
A digit hint narrows different kinds of uncertainty depending on its position. A century digit settles a broad era, while a final digit helps only after you have a plausible decade. Use the picture first so the hint resolves a specific question rather than replacing observation.
Use clothing, vehicles and image technology to set approximate bounds before selecting a year. This reduces random precision.
Choose a digit that separates your plausible alternatives. The final digit has little value when the decade itself is unknown.
Because digit positions are limited across the game, an easy image may be worth solving without a reveal.
You enjoy photograph dating and want a daily five-round challenge without a location map.
You want to identify where the photo was taken. The inspected puzzle scores its year estimate rather than a place pin.
Choose a different game based on the experience you want.
The inspected Daily Challenge asks for a four-digit year and does not include a map-pin answer.
The public help says the reveal has no point penalty, while limiting each digit position to one reveal per game.
