Follow the language clues

Hear and read clues to the world

Compare spoken languages, scripts and phrases while keeping language separate from country.

Why these games?

Language games reward a kind of observation that map quizzes rarely test. Listen for repeated sounds and rhythm, or inspect a written phrase for its script, small words and endings. A shortlist is useful for comparing related candidates; a broader pack tests recognition with less support. Language and country remain different questions, because speakers and writing systems cross borders. These picks include both listening and reading, so choose the text entries when audio is inconvenient. Review the feature that distinguished a correct answer instead of treating a familiar-sounding word as proof, then change difficulty only after you understand the current pool.

  1. Language Matcher — audio playback and four-language answer choices

    Language Matcher

Start with a ten-round listening quiz and four named choices. You can compare rhythm and recurring sounds even without translating the clip, using the shortlist to turn an uncertain impression into elimination.

  2. Language Squad — beginner audio question and three language choices

    Language Squad

Choose an audio difficulty before starting, or inspect the alphabet path when listening is inconvenient. Difficulty changes the candidate pool, so compare improvement within one level rather than equating every score.

  3. WhereSpoken — daily audio sample, difficulty and guess controls

    WhereSpoken

Add the separate question of the speaker’s country to language recognition. Progressive hints and a slower playback option support deduction, while the guide explains why identifying a language does not automatically locate the voice.

  4. LangGuessr — public sentence-pack catalog and difficulty links

    LangGuessr

Practice written sentences through regional and language-family packs. A constrained collection makes neighboring spelling patterns easier to compare; exercise links open on the separate host published by the official Play page.

  5. Languagle — daily phrase with country and language selectors

    Languagle

Solve one daily written phrase within six guesses. Its country selector can narrow the language list, but you may answer directly when script and spelling provide stronger evidence than a country hypothesis.
