LanguageGuessr
Hear a short speech recording and estimate where its language is spoken on the world map.

Choose a manageable sentence collection, look beyond a single recognizable word and learn which written clues distinguish neighboring languages.
LangGuessr starts with a choice of sentence collections. The public Play page includes a 100-language set, European Union languages, indigenous languages of Latin America and a Romance-language group. Easy and hard links lead to the actual exercises on the publisher’s Neocities site.
This is primarily a reading exercise. You compare scripts, spelling and recognizable grammatical patterns instead of listening to speech. The Countries activity adds a daily place question based on ten sentences in different languages; a country can contain several languages, so the task is broader than matching one language to one flag.
Written-language identification works by elimination. An unfamiliar word may still reveal a script, a familiar suffix or punctuation convention. Regional packs narrow the possible answers before the first sentence, while the 100-language set makes that initial classification much harder. Keep language identification separate from inferring a speaker’s nationality.
Begin with a family or region you partly know. Comparing neighboring languages makes spelling differences easier to notice than switching randomly across a hundred possibilities.
A borrowed word can mislead. Look at repeated endings, short function words and diacritics elsewhere in the sentence before deciding.
Repeat a small collection until you can explain your answers, then move to its harder version. Familiarity with one sentence is weaker evidence than recognizing a pattern.
You enjoy written clues and want practice organized around language families or geographic regions, with a large sentence collection to explore.
You want speech recognition or a map pin after every round. The main packs are text exercises, and their interface lives on a separate linked host.
Choose a different game based on the experience you want.
The inspected Play page describes sentence-based exercises. For a listening challenge, use one of the audio games in the language category.
The official LangGuessr Play page links its exercises to langguessr.neocities.org. Follow those published links instead of assuming every same-named host is part of the game.
