TimeGuessr
Estimate both the location and the year of a historical photograph.
Photos & history
A plausible country is the beginning of a pin guess. Use the photograph’s strongest local clue to refine the position and identify which scale of geography needs more practice.
The current WhereTaken at wheretaken.com is a photo-to-map-pin game. Its daily interface presents still photographs and a location panel; the official instructions ask you to inspect the scene, place a pin and submit the guess. Unlike WhenTaken, this task has no separate year estimate. Unlike WhereTaken Classic, the answer is a map position rather than a country name.
Still images limit what you can investigate. You can inspect the supplied scene, but cannot assume it offers Street View movement around the corner. Signs, coastlines, distinctive buildings and surrounding terrain have to support both the broad region and the eventual position. The homepage also links an archive and community area; those are separate routes whose full access requirements were not tested.
A broad country hypothesis and an exact map position require different evidence. Architecture or vegetation may suggest a region, while a named street or distinctive coastal layout can narrow the pin. Treat the photograph as a finite clue set. If it lacks precise evidence, use a defensible location within the plausible region rather than inventing a landmark match from a weak resemblance.
Combine language, terrain and built environment to choose a broad area. Fine map searching is inefficient when the starting country remains unsupported.
Once a region fits, look for a landmark, visible place name or distinctive coastline. Those support pin placement better than another general impression of climate.
Separate identifying the wrong country from placing a pin badly inside the correct one. Choose future practice based on the weaker skill rather than just the total score.
You want a daily photo-location challenge without an additional year slider or panorama navigation.
You prefer country-name deduction with repeated feedback, or need freely movable Street View. This is a still-image pinpointing task.
Choose a different game based on the experience you want.
No. wheretaken.com asks you to place a geographic pin. The Classic listing links to the older Teuteuf host and uses a country/region answer with bonus rounds.
The checked WhereTaken instructions ask for the photograph’s location only. WhenTaken and WhenTaken Movies are separate products that add a time estimate.
