TimeGuessr
Estimate both the location and the year of a historical photograph.
Photos & history
Study an unfolding historical image, choose a year and explore its source. Play an adaptive survival climb or a shared five-photo daily.
guessNow asks for the year of a historical photograph, without a map or location guess. Each image gradually zooms out over ten seconds. Choose a year on the slider and confirm; the result shows the actual year, your error and a source and licence link.
Adaptive Climb starts at Easy and moves toward Expert after two accurate answers in a row. The daily challenge gives everyone the same five photographs and saves one result per UTC day. We opened the public game without signing in and checked one Adaptive Climb answer: its result credited NASA and linked to a public-domain source. The creator describes the game as free and unlimited; we did not complete a daily or full survival run.
Each photograph zooms out over ten seconds, gradually adding context. The year slider runs from 1800 to the present. In Adaptive Climb, two accurate answers in a row advance the difficulty, while each year of error reduces a 300-point HP reserve at the current difficulty multiplier. The daily uses a fixed five-photo set and one saved result each UTC day. The result screen reports the actual year and error and links to the image source and licence.
Let the image zoom out before deciding. Clothing, vehicles and surrounding architecture may date the scene more reliably than the first detail.
Identify an object or technology that establishes the earliest plausible date, then use other clues to narrow the range.
After guessing, follow the credit and source link to learn more about the photograph and check its context.
You enjoy dating archival photographs and want a repeatable survival game alongside a shared daily set.
You want to guess a location on a map or need a game with no survival penalty. guessNow asks only for a year and deducts HP for errors.
Compare these options by their clues, controls and play style before choosing your next game.
The creator says it is free, requires no account and offers unlimited play in a browser. We entered and answered a round as a guest.
